Gope Cuíca 8" × 25cm Aluminum Brazilian Samba Friction Drum - Gope
Brazilian Gope Cuíca — 8" Friction Drum for Samba
The cuíca is the unmistakable voice of Brazilian samba — that crying, laughing, talking sound that leads the bateria during Carnaval. This Gope cuíca is built in Brazil with a aluminum body and a genuine animal-skin head, tuned through 8 chrome tuning rods and played with a moistened cloth on the internal bamboo rod (gambito).
Highlights
- Authentic Brazilian samba friction drum, made by Gope
- Aluminum shell — Aluminum shells give a warm, rounded tone — a little softer than stainless, with a focused throat that records beautifully.

- 8 chrome tuning rods for precise pitch control
- Genuine animal-skin head with internal bamboo rod (gambito)
- Tuning key included
Sound
Eight inches is the classic middle voice — the most popular size for batucadas and pagode rodas. Balanced tone, easy to control, the cuíca most percussionists choose first.

How to play
Hold the cuíca under your non-dominant arm with the open end facing forward. Practice gives you the iconic samba "crying" voice that defines Brazilian Carnaval percussion.
