Produced by Full Moon Features, the 1989 horror film "Puppet Master" features André Toulon, an old puppeteer (a person who moves puppets articulated with wires) who learned the secret of resuscitation from an Egyptian sorcerer and used it in his puppet shows to make his puppets move on their own to thrill the audience. Toulon used magic to bring to life mortal puppets with the souls of his deceased friends who were murdered, so they could take revenge on those who killed them and help him protect the magic. This film had nine sequels and comic book adaptations. Pinhead is one of the puppets built by Toulon during World War II in Berlin. Before becoming a puppet, Pinhead was a man named Herman Strauss. Strauss was a truck driver who secretly took food to Jewish ghettos; as a result, he was executed in the gas chambers by the Nazis for treason. Pinhead and Blade are the only characters to appear in every movie in the Puppet Master series so far. Tunneler's soul was that of a German friend of Toulon who disagreed with Hitler's move and was forced to work in the Nazi salt mines and ended up starving to death. Tunneler's personality is that of a cold-blooded killer. He is intelligent and capable of executing complex orders. Tunneler's main weapon and namesake is a cone-shaped drill that replaces his scalp; he usually kills his victims by attacking them head-on with his running drill.
